The world already would be out of water if everyone ate like Americans

Isolated irrigation projects scattered throughout the desert are seen from an airplane above Saudi Arabia in 2009. The fossil waters mined to sustain these projects accumulated during periods of wetter weather as far back as a million years ago and are not being replenished under current climatic conditions.
